Made Well: Love is in the Air & Doilies are in the Window!

While we won't even try to be Martha over here, we will say we were feeling particularly MS Living when it came time to craft our studio's window display for the winter season. Pretty strands of doily garlands conjure up images of snowflakes and weddings. They are pure handmade goodness. As we sat folding each delicate piece we actually wondered about the history of the doily. During the Victorian Era women would crochet each doily with thread to add a touch of elegance to their home. In preparation for marriage, a young lady was expected to crochet at least ten doilies to include in a hope chest for her new shared home. We don't expect that of you, dear readers, but do enjoy our doily garland how-to!
Materials Needed:
- Doilies (we used three different sizes)
- Twine (we used cooking twine)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Scissors
Remember to place doilies fold-to-fold fanning out, like a book. We used three folded doilies to make each "pom" and alternated sizes on our string.
Cut string to length desired for hanging or draping. These would be adorable decorations over a table top for a dinner party, or a backdrop for a photo booth or dessert table!
You may need to "fluff" or adjust the folds of the doilies once they are hanging.
Voila! Doily garland complete!

Wow, lovely - I'm so doing this project.
This is a great tutorial. It might be a little out of season for me, but I'll bookmark it for November!
What a pretty, pretty project:)
