What inspired you to start In Haus Press?
A little over a year ago, my boyfriend {now business partner} surprised me with a large box containing our first press: an adana eight five. We taught ourselves the craft of letterpress printing and have had many adventures acquiring supplies and materials along the way. I was a pastry chef with my own business at the time, but found myself more passionate about designing the brand, packaging and correspondence than I was with the act of creating baked goods. When the press arrived, the idea for In Haus Press literally happened over night. I sat at the table, brainstormed for hours, and wrote the business plan by lamplight. I knew I wanted to design papergoods that would inspire people to send notes through the post again rather than simply email. I also knew that everything from photography to marketing would be done in house, thus the name, In Haus Press. That, and the fact that IHP started in our tiny san francisco apartment.
We offer personal stationery for the individual, as well as wall prints and accessories for the home. Each piece is hand-fed on our our vintage presses, and set aside until it is purchased. Soon, we will be launching Beau and Arrow, our line of simple wedding pieces. It's still a few months out, but soon!
What is the In Haus Press aesthetic?
Our design goals are simple— create classic and humble pieces suitable for men and women alike. I am continuously inspired by timeless Native American and Scandinavian influences, trying to incorporate them both, as well as my love of typography in to every piece I design.

What is it about San Francisco that inspires your personal style?
It's a beautiful city. Living near the ocean, you have to bundle up most days.. which is fine for me, since I love chunky knit sweaters, wool flannel shirts, and boots.
What are your favorite materials to work with?
Wood and metal type, black ink, cotton paper, wood, leather, and Pendleton Wool remnants.
What is your design weakness?
As with most creative types, when I have an idea I tend to think of nothing else until I can make it a reality. That, and I want it to happen that very moment. Slowly, slowly though, I am learning to be patient with my ideas, and focus on creating a balance between work and everything else.

What is your take on the DIY philosophy that has made Etsy?
There's no greater feeling in the world than having an idea, turning it into something tangible, and sharing it with others. Etsy's philosophy has enabled small businesses to do just that. The amazing community of buyers and sellers continues to be a huge part of each sellers success by acting as a source of marketing and support, that otherwise may not exist. Etsy has come so far, that it is now a resource larger companies look to when sourcing products for their own brick and mortar locations, thus creating more business for Etsy sellers. I've been introduced to so many amazing designers because of Etsy, and look forward to finding many more.
