Head Over Heels with Melanie: Cover Up for All!

Fall is here… well if you live in Northern California it’ll be here in a few months. But “technically” fall is here! And with that being said, it’s time to think about layers. Even for your wedding day! Whether you need a cover-up in case it gets a little chilly or you want to be comfortable when you get that perfect outdoor shot, it’s better to be prepared. I have always found it strange that the majority of cover-ups carried in bridal salons are either lace or chiffon. While they can be gorgeous, it’s not necessarily practical. If you are getting married and need to have your shoulders covered for religious reasons then they work absolutely beautifully. But, if you need something that has a little bit more warmth as well as an extra fashion statement, then stick with me!
Take a look at all these options! This is the season to find an amazing cashmere cardigan or fitted blazer to complete your look! I also adore the idea of really infusing some personal style with this item. If you are known as the flannel shirt guru, why not wear a flannel shirt to your reception?! You can up the ante with accessories and feel completely you on your wedding day. If you are looking for something at a bridal salon, you may start to have more luck. Ivy and Aster just came out with some adorable formal cardigans and BHLDN has some unique options as well.

I recently had a photo shoot in which we styled the same gown three different ways. In this photo shoot, our gorgeous model Sarah {of www.thebreathtakingbride.com} wore the same stunning wedding gown (Eureka from Amy Kuschel Bride) but we made it look completely different with accessories, hair and makeup. I wanted to show how you can style your gown in many ways and how much accessories could play an impact on your wedding look. Each look had a different cover up to show versatility.
I love the idea of a chambray shirt for a barn wedding or outdoor party. It’s a clever way to be unique and unexpected. For you more traditional brides, how about having your “something old” be one of grandma’s fur stoles? There are so many options for a cover-up for your wedding look. Inspiration is all around you this fall season!
