Illustrated, Hand-Drawn Wedding Map Round-Up

The wedding map has come a long way. With the growth of destination weddings came the need to point your guests in the right direction in the cutest way possible, highlighting not only your wedding locale but the best cafes, beaches and wineries in the area. Pictured above, a hand-illustrated map by Rifle Paper Co. that chronicles "The Story of Us" place by place; Daley at Merry Maps designed a custom, hand-drawn for Jennifer and James’ save-the-dates. {Photo by Lisa Marie from Sweet Tea Photography}

The Indigo Bunting's custom illustrated map for Joo and Jacob's wedding at the Smog Shoppe in L.A. The inspiration? Lush hanging gardens, succulents and other exotic plants in the event space; Rifle Paper Co. created these awesome hand-sewn invitations and maps for Kate and Avi's Brooklyn wedding last fall. "I used embroidery thread and sewed it directly into paper to create the design and then added hand painted lettering before scanning the art for printing."

A bright and cheery map of Anguilla by Anne Smith; Rifle Paper Co.'s illustrated map and these beautiful map handkerchief wedding invitations by Kelli Anderson. The designer says, "the handkerchief seemed like a logical choice for conveying a sense of impending adventure. This was important because the wedding is at the top of a mountain and part of the experience is the journey to this other somewhat-remote place. Handkerchiefs are inextricably linked to the concept of the journey for me—conjuring up images of lachrymose ladies waving them out of the train window and hobos carrying a stick with a colorful bindle at the end. Receiving one with a map on it as an invitation, would be an enticement of adventure impossible to refuse!" And below is a mid-century modern inspired map by Sol Linero.

Happy travels!
