Talking Shop with Jamie of Jaysworld Vintage Book Decor

We discovered Jamie Birkholz's Etsy shop Jaysworld Vintage Book Decor and knew we had to share this awesome find. Whether you are gathering vintage accents for your wedding, filling out your book shelves, or you simply adore the look of colorful, well-loved books, this shop will be your haven. We already have our eye on a few collections.

What inspired you to open Jaysworld? My love for interior design along with hunting for vintage treasures has inspired me to put the two together!

Do you create collections solely based on color, or do you also create collections based on genre/author/title/binding design? Yes, I mainly create collections based on color however, I do also list encyclopedia sets and other book volume sets as well.

What is your design weakness? My weakness is mixing colors that most people would never. I totally love creating collections as if I am looking through someone else's eyes! I sell more than books in my shop, but my love and passion is colorful books.

Who shops at Jaysworld? I have many clients: brides, interior designers, men and women, mothers shopping for books for kids and baby rooms, birthday party decor. Everyone!

Any favorite antique shops or flea markets in California you're willing to share? I love to hunt in markets and antique stores! I always make a point to stop at estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores too. I travel with my husband quite often for business and we stop in many little town thrift stores. I just love it!

We think vintage books make great decor at weddings. Describe your creative process with a Jaysworld bride. I have had more fun meeting brides than any other client. They give me the colors and I begin to create a collection for them. I do not charge extra for custom orders. We work together until we get it perfect! I have also sold many books to display table numbers. So creative and fun. I do love that vintage book decor can be Victorian, mod, retro, modern, shabby chic…the list goes on!

What is your take on the DIY philosophy that has made Etsy? Etsy has been an amazing ride for me. I never thought my shop would take off so fast. I belong to some great teams and we help promote each other- I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Esty and its core are just amazing. I am in awe of the talent I see every day. Plus, its awesome to be able to purchase items from someone from across the world. I meet other Etsy sellers from all over the globe who will take the time to help a fellow seller. Even when the economy has had its struggles, there seems to be a real exciting flow happening within the Etsy community
